Whether you're a sporadic Tweeter, addicted to Facebook, or a peruser of LinkedIn, it's safe to say that most of us are hooked up to some form of social media. But is there anything too sacred to go online?
It would seem not, as a newly released poll has shown that almost half of mums upload the news of their new arrival to social media sites within just two hours of having their baby. What's more, almost two thirds of parents say they or their partner provided a social media commentary ahead of the birth or during labour.
Almost 40% say they post their children's `firsts' on social media - with first steps, day at school, smile, crawling, teeth and even pair of shoes popular `firsts' posts amongst parents.
A year ago, the announcement of the arrival of Prince George went digital when Clarence House tweeted the news of the birth and it seems what's good enough for the Royals is good enough for the rest of us when it comes to letting the world know of our good news.
The poll, released by leading children's shoe company, Start-rite shoes, has found that a large number of mums are so keen to spread the news of their bundle of joy that they're back on social media minutes after they've given birth, with one in ten new mothers posting news of their new arrival on Facebook and other social media within 15 minutes of having a baby, no doubt helped by predictive text to resolve gas-and-air induced spelling errors.
Celebrities often share news of their pregnancy and birth via social media and all eyes will be on their social feeds in the coming weeks and months as a number of them look forward to their forthcoming arrivals. Celebrities who have announced their babies on social media include the famous faces Jessica Ennis-Hill, Simon Cowell, Peter Andre and Michael Buble.
