VIOLINIST Nicola Benedetti was joined by 70 young musicians as they performed a "flash mob" version of The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond.
The children, who are between the ages of eight and 18 and are each at Grade 4 or higher in their own instruments, spent Thursday rehearsing the tune before playing it in surprise performances in Glasgow yesterday, conducted by Peter Manning.
Benedetti, who won rapturous applause when she played her version of Loch Lomond at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, later tweeted a photograph with the children at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, writing: "You were all amazing today! An honour to share the last two days and variety of stages with you."
The violinist, a high-profile advocate for music education and outreach initiatives for young musicians, will be taking part in Glasgow Unesco City of Music Classics Marathon Day at the Royal Concert Hall today. It will feature both the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Martyn Brabbins.
