THE highlights of the Commonwealth Games this week will include a visit from royalty, sporting superstars and more homegrown athletes hoping to win gold.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend two days of the Games tomorrow and Tuesday, accompanied by Prince Harry.

All three, who were also official ambassadors at the London Olympics in 2012, will be able to join spectators in watching swimming, athletics, gymnastics and shooting events.

Track and field stars will be in action this week, with events tomorrow culminating in the finals of the men and women's 100m.

Some of the sporting action will also move to Edinburgh, with the highly anticipated diving competition due to get under way in the capital's Royal Commonwealth Pool on Wednesday.

Among the top homegrown medal hopes will be Eilidh Child, poster girl for Team Scotland, who will be competing in the 400m hurdles on Tuesday and the 4x400m relay on Friday.

The first round of men's 4x100m relay taking place on Friday will give spectators the first chance to see Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt in action.

The final of the 4x100m relay will be the last event in the athletics programme on Saturday.
