Scottish Water has been fined £6,500 after pleading guilty to polluting a river and killing hundreds of fish.

The incident happened at Alva Burn, Alva, Alloa, near to a reservoir, last August.

A Scottish Environment Protection Agency officer found 50 dead fish along a 400-metre stretch of the burn. Investigations revealed a pipe had been discharging chlorinated water.

At Alloa Sheriff Court yesterday, sheriff David Mackie imposed a £6,500 fine, reduced from £10,000 due to the fact the incident was relatively "short-lived and localised".
