JOHN Barrowman's world-famous "Glasgow kiss" with a man at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games is to leave a legacy of a stronger, wider commitment to equality, the Scottish Government has pledged.
Launching a new "Scotland believes in equality" campaign while the eyes of the world are on the country, Sports Secretary Shona Robison, whose brief also covers equalities and pensioners' rights, said: "We firmly believe there is no place for prejudice or discrimination and that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and equally.
"In the past week we have welcomed nations from across the world to Glasgow, and I am delighted that these Games have the biggest ever programme of Para-sport events integrated into the Commonwealth schedule."
She added:"This is our opportunity to show Scotland celebrates diversity, where equality and human rights are respected."
The Equality Network, the Scottish lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex equality charity, welcomed the launch, with policy co-ordinator Tom French saying: "Equality is a core value in Scotland.
