Pupil intake at a troubled school in Edinburgh has plummeted after its headteacher was charged with domestic abuse.
The number of pupils applying to join Castlebrae Community High School in the south of the city has dropped to 27 this year. This is a shortfall on the 46 applications expected by council chiefs.
The plunging figures come weeks after assault charges were brought against headteacher Derek Curran, 54, who has been released on bail. Mr Curran was brought in as a "superhead" to reverse the school's ailing fortunes and the school had been getting back on track.
Susan Heron, parent council vice-chair, said: "I'm absolutely gutted that the numbers have fallen. There's a new head arriving and I'm hoping we can put all this behind us and get on at the school doing what we do best and that's making a positive future for our young people."
