NHS managers have been told to take immediate action after inspectors found dirty equipment in a hospital which had previously been told to improve standards of cleanliness.
An inspection of Borders General Hospital uncovered blood and faeces on some items, including walking aids, trolleys and bed frames.
Members of the Healthcare Improvement Scotland team carried out a follow-up visit in June after making their initial recommendations in November last year. They said that although four previous requirements had been met, cleanliness of patient equipment was still an issue.

Evelyn Rodger, director of nursing and midwifery at NHS Borders, said: "Whilst we are pleased the majority of requirements from last year have been met, I would like to give my assurance that these were isolated incidents and that immediate action was taken to ensure these one-off matters remain precisely that."
