Up to 27,000 homes suffered power cuts in the Western Isles, Skye and the West Highlands.

All were reconnected in under two hours and SSE issued an apology after the power cut, which was traced to works being carried out at Fort Augustus substation, the main link to Skye and the Western Isles. The disruption started at 1.20pm in a number of areas, including Fort Augustus, Fort William, Skye and the Western Isles. All customers were restored in stages by 3.14pm. SSE said no damage had been sustained to the network. Engineers implemented restoration procedures.
