A man has suffered serious injuries in an early morning disturbance.

The 35-year-old required hospital treatment following the incident in Montrose Street, Brechin, at around 2.20am today.

The road was closed while police investigated the scene and the man was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area early this morning to contact them.

A police statement said: "As a result of the incident, a 35-year-old male sustained serious injuries which required treatment at Ninewells Hospital.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the incident or anyone who may have any information relating to the incident."
