A pharmaceutical company has been fined £12,000 after an employee was crushed by a reversing lorry.

Alexander Mackenzie suffered head and chest injuries in the accident at Edinburgh firm Macfarlan Smith.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard he had been attempting to signal to a driver reversing into a loading bay at the premises on Wheatfield Road.

He was crushed between the vehicle and the bay wall but has made a full recovery since the incident in 2011.

A Health and Safety probe found no suitable risk assessment was carried out and the loading bay area was not kept clear. The firm pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the health and safety of an employee.
