A VIOLENT thug is facing jail after a 12-year campaign of terror against women and children.

The abuse by Edward Callanan even included attacking a victim because she spoiled his curry.

A jury heard how the 52-year-old went from being a "Jack the Lad" to a "jealous, controlling bully".

Callanan has now been brought to justice after he was convicted of 11 assault charges - three of which were for indecent assault - following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

He will learn his fate when he returns to the dock next month.

The abuse occurred between September 1986 and July 1998.

Callanan, of the city's Mount Vernon, had also been accused of raping one of the women and one of the girls, but the jury returned not proven verdicts.

Judge Lord Jones deferred sentencing until September 19 at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Callanan was also put on the sex offenders' register.
