LEADING politicians past and present are expected to attend a memorial service for the former Labour minister Sam Galbraith at Bute Hall in Glasgow University on Tuesday.

Mr Galbraith, who was one of the longest surviving lung transplant patients, died on Monday.

The ex-MSP served as education and later environment minister. As an MP, he was a Scottish Office minister in Tony Blair's first government.

Prior to entering politics, he had been a neurosurgeon. The service at his former university will follow a private cremation.
