FLOUNDER tramping returned to the Solway Firth with nearly 300 competitors from all over the country taking to the sands.

The event, at Glenisle, near Palnackie in Dumfries and Galloway, was the brainchild of Victoria Baird who resurrected the centuries-old tradition of tramping flounders as the tide goes out.

It has been eight years since the World Flounder Tramping championship was held in the tiny village.

Flounders were caught by the competitors who used their feet to try to track down the elusive fish, which settle in the sand. Most were returned to the water.

The winner was Chris Bridges from Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, whose catch weighed in at 206 grams.

Ladies' winner was Tessa Hutchings with 74gm and Sarah Greenway won the children's section with 31gm.
