A MAN in his 60s has been killed after his motorcycle was in a collision with a steamroller on a stretch of road near the notorious Devil's Elbow.

The crash happened on the A93 near Glenshee, Perthshire, about 2.40pm yesterday. The victim was flown to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where he died.

Police closed the road to investigate the tragedy.

The A93 leads up to the UK's highest main road, the Cairnwell Pass, which rises to 2199ft. The Elbow is one mile from the summit and was a part of the old A93 that was famous for its hairpin bends, which had a gradient of about one in six.

The road was straightened in the 1960s and the old road is now used only by walkers or cyclists.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who may have seen the collision is asked to call police on 101."
