SCOTS are being urged to embrace human rights as campaigners launched a PR drive to tackle public suspicion of the concept.

The push by the Human Rights Consortium Scotland (HRCS) is designed to inform those who do not see the relevance of such rights in their own lives.

Carole Ewart, HRCS co-ordinator, said: "Regrettably too often human rights are unfairly blamed whenthings go wrong, a scapegoat for bad decisions. The HRCS wants them to have their rightful place in Scottish society as a set of standards and values, there when individuals and communities need them with a legal framework to achieve a fairer Scotland."

The Article 10 Project is named for the freedom of expression clause, covered by the 10th article of the European Convention on Human Rights.
