GLASGOW City Council leader Gordon Matheson gets up close and personal with some of the 120,000 bees that have taken up residence on the roof of the City Chambers.

Two colonies of honeybees, which are under threat from disease, increased use of pesticides and climate change, are being housed above George Square as part of a Sustainable Glasgow initiative courtesy of PlanBee Ltd, which has provided trained staff to look after them and insulated beehives to keep them warm in the winter.
