EDINBURGH International Festival director Sir Jonathan Mills is pictured in the Usher Hall on the eve of a concert marking his last event after eight years at the helm.
His oratorio Sandakan Threnody, which honours the 2,500 British and Australian prisoners of war who lost their lives in North Borneo during the Second World War, will form part of tonight's finale of the festival's concert series, performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Ilan Volkov.
Sir Jonathan was appointed as director of the festival in February 2006. He introduced themes into the festival, with this year marking the centenary commemoration of the First World War.
