POLICE have refused to confirm a report that two detectives have been cleared of misconduct following their interview with Gail Sheridan while she was facing a perjury inquiry.
They were accused of taking rosary beads from Mrs Sheridan, who was cleared in 2010 before her husband Tommy was con-victed, and saying she used IRA tactics in questioning.
The Crown Office has previously investigated and said there was not enough evidence to say that an officer broke the law. The two detectives also faced an internal probe by Police Scotland and yesterday it was reported that they had been cleared of bigoted conduct despite admitting removing her beads and asking her about the IRA.
Gail and Tommy Sheridan's lawyer Gordon Dangerfield has criticised the police investigation. Mr Sheridan has also applied to the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (SCCRC), claiming he was the victim of a miscarriage of justice.
A Police Scotland spokesman said the force would not comment.
