A MAN was seriously injured when his car hit a stone cottage and ended up on its side.

The incident happened on the A92 Stonehaven to Inverbervie road in Aberdeenshire.

There was nobody inside the house at the time at the Uras crossroads, Police Scotland said.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off the barely recognisable silver car to free the occupant and he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Police had to temporarily turn off the electricity supplies to the house, whose occupants were away, after the car took power lines down.

Meanwhile, another man was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious injuries after a collision between a van and a tractor on the B9025 at Ord crossroads between Aberchirder and Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, yesterday.
