A COMPANY which supplied IT services to this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is to honour more than 200 volunteers who helped deliver the service.

NVT, an independent IT company in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, took on the volunteers to help deliver the contract.

David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014, is handing out a presentation watch and scroll to each of the 200 volunteers who helped the company deliver the event's IT services successfully at Saturday morning's event.

The city's provost Sadie Docherty will also attend the event at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Part of the legacy commitment that the firm made as part of their bid to get the contract was to include students, unemployed and apprentices, as well as workers from other IT firms, to participate in the whole experience.

More than 350 people applied to give their time to the firm and work during the Games, and help ensure that computer networks ran smoothly at each venue during the event.

They were given the title 'Games Players' to distinguish them from teams of Clydesiders, and wore uniforms which were supplied by NVT.

Stephen Park Brown, the firm's managing director, said that many of the volunteers had gained a valuable, insight into the IT industry which would stand them in good stead if they chose to take their experience further through education or employment.

He said: "The camaraderie among all the volunteers was fantastic and they all put their backs into it.

"They all did it off their own back and were not looking for payment.

"They've gained valuable experience about the IT industry and it maybe showed some of them areas they will work in during their careers or showed them ones they would like to investigate further.

"We're very grateful for their efforts and the presentation is to say thank you to them."
