CAPTAIN Stuart Mitchell and Edinburgh Lass Kay Robertson take to Calton Hill in the run up to Sunday's Edinburgh Riding of the Marches.
The annual procession along the Royal Mile will this year mark 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. In partnership with veterans' charity Poppyscotland, more than 270 riders led by the Edinburgh Captain, Captains Lass and the First and Second Officers will inspect the city boundaries before making their way to the Royal Mile to stage a spectacular mounted cavalcade. It will attract representatives from the 30 riding towns from Shetland to Annan. Around 6,000 horsemen lost their lives in cavalry attacks and a further 16,000 were injured in the 1914-18 conflict. Of one million horses sent to the front only 65,000 returned to Britain.
