A MOTORIST got a shock when his car rolled into a canal.

The Nissan Primera slipped into the Union Canal at Ratho, near Edinburgh, yesterday after the driver appeared to have left the hand-brake off. Emergency services had to fish the stricken vehicle from the water using a crane in an operation that drew a number of onlookers. Narrow boat users were left amused by the new "vessel" before it was removed. Eyewitnesses said it had rolled down a hill into the water at around 12.25pm. The driver was not thought to be hurt.
