DOUBLE the normal rainfall levels have swamped parts of Scotland, with some weather stations recording their wettest July on record.

According to the preliminary stats, some areas are nearing 200 per cent of their average.

Perth has hit 225 per cent so far, while Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness are way above where their rainfall figures should be.

This week's rain is forecast to slowly clear for a slightly improved Wednesday and Thursday. However, there has been a forecast for overnight frost in parts of Scotland on both nights.

And it has been reported that some bookmakers have cut the odds on July being the wettest on record, on average the country as a whole has not faired as badly as some recent years.

The wettest July on record was in 1940 with 186mm, while 2009 was ninth wettest with 2010 in fourth place, clocking up an average of 166mm of rain.

Temperatures have also fallen to 4C in Edinburgh, a low of 5C in Paisley, Islay has seen 4C and Strathallan in Perthshire just 2C.

The summer’s wild and stormy weather also puts 2015 on track to be the windiest year for over 20 years.
