A MAN has been jailed for two-and-a-half years over an attack on an elderly woman in broad daylight in which she was violently shoved to the ground as she walked across a pedestrian crossing and robbed of her handbag.

Kieran Michael Donnelly attacked the 86-year-old in Leven's Durie Street on March 25.

The incident took place at around 10.10am near to the junction with Scoonie Road when the victim was walking across the pedestrian crossing.

A trial at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard she was approached by a man who pushed her to the ground and robbed her of her handbag, before running off down Church Street, towards Promenade, Leven.

Donnelly, 31, a prisoner at HMP Edinburgh, was found guilty on indictment of a charge of assault and robbery.

He was jailed for a total of 30 months.
