Glasgow and Marseille always made a lovely pair. Now the Scottish and French twin cities are to bare all.

That is because naturists in the two great ports have followed their politicians and teamed up - not least because the Scots fancy somewhere warm to undress.

Eric Stefanut, vice president of Marseille's naturist association came up with the idea as he watched Scotland suffer a rained-off summer.

The Scots, he told La Provence, Marseille's paper "have actually shown themselves very interested in our naked rambles will soon come to take part.

"They are amazed by the beaches and the number of holiday centres dedicated to naturism that exist in the south."

Mr Stefanut also plans to adopt a Scottish traditional: the Ne'er's Day Dip. However, his association wants to see in the new year in the nude. They want to turn one of the Calanques or inlets near the city in to a naturalist zone for the day. "History will tell if the Scots will take part," said La Provence.

Glasgow and Marseille twinned in 2006, one of four new such arrangements made by the city's Labour administration between 2003 and 2007. Opposition politicians have called on the city to be stripped of some of its twins.
