The head of security at Edinburgh Airport has left his job following complaints over a new queueing system.

Chief operating officer David Wilson, who's key role was to steer through the introduction of the new £25 million security hall, has left under mutual agreement after three years in the post.

Passenger numbers are rising higher than expected at the airport which is said to be under pressure amid continuing complaints.

Adrian Witherow from Gatwick Airport has been appointed to tackle what Mr Wilson described earlier as the "biggest issue" facing the facility.

In June one million passengers used Edinburgh Airport, up 10 per cent on the same time last year.

Mr Wilson, who appeared in the BBC documentary Inside Edinburgh Airport, apologised to passengers last month over delays.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “I can confirm that David Wilson has left Edinburgh Airport and that we wish him well.

"His successor, Adrian Witherow, joins the team on September 28.”
