WHEN US gymnast MyKayla Skinner and her choreographer coined the idea of a Scottish-themed floor exercise ahead of this autumn’s 2015 World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow they surely must have thought they had struck gold.

Skinner, 18, debuted the routine – which is set to a bouncy house dance mix of Scotland the Brave – at the Secret U.S. Classic in Chicago last month.

So far, so potentially crowd-pleasing. Until Skinner revealed what she believed would be the cherry on the top: a matching leotard.

“I have a green leo,” she is quoted as saying by the gymnastike website. “It’s a shamrock green and it’s supposed to fit my floor routine.”

Cue tumbleweed. It would appear Skinner – or her choreographer – have got the Celtic nations of Scotland and Ireland a tad muddled.

Skinner, who was part of the gold-medal winning US team at last year’s World Championships, is reported to be planning to debut said leotard at the P&G Gymnastics Championships in Indianapolis later this week.

Hopefully someone will alert her to this potentially cringeworthy fashion faux pas – and gently point Skinner in the direction of the nearest world map – before October rolls around.

The 2015 World Gymnastics Championships take place at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow from October 23 until November 1.
