Jeremy Corbyn has raised eyebrows by apparently refusing to do an interview in a car - because he doesn't like them.

The BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show has been running a feature called "carshare", where the Labour leadership candidates are quizzed while being driven around by correspondent Chris Mason.

Shadow ministers Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall have all taken part.

However, after seemingly agreeing to the idea, Mr Corbyn's team then changed their mind. BBC journalists are said to have been told that the left-winger "didn't like cars", and always used bicycles.

In the feature, Mr Corbyn - an ardent environmentalist - was seen locking up his bike next to the programme's branded electric-powered Chevrolet.

The pair then walk to a nearby cafe to conduct the interview. "I love the bike," Mr Corbyn says. "Two wheels good - I cycle all the time."

Labour backbencher Simon Danczuk said: "We are all in favour of being environmentally friendly and more green, but you do have to wonder with someone who is unwilling to get in a car.

"The public will say: are they fit to be in government, just on a practical level?"
