Former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie’s Daily Politics show comment about Nicola Sturgeon will not be investigated by Ofcom.

MacKenzie described Sturgeon as the “lady who runs Jockestan” during an appearance on the BBC2 show on September 21.

Ofcom received almost 80 complaints about the comment from members of the public who found it offensive.

However, according to The Guardian, Ofcom has assessed the incident and decided it will not investigate whether the remark potentially breached the UK broadcasting code because it was “justified by the context”.

A spokesperson for Ofcom said: “We received a number of complaints about comments made by Kelvin MacKenzie on this programme, but decided they didn’t raise issues under our rules warranting further investigation.

“The off-the-cuff remark was made during a political analysis programme and the offence caused by this comment was on balance justified by the context.”
