Glasgow City Council has moved its bonfire night fireworks display to prevent a clash with Celtic's next home game in the Europa League.
The fireworks display at Glasgow Green will take place on November 4, a day earlier this year.
The council decided to move the event, which has nearly always taken place on November 5, due to the Parkhead side’s match against Norwegian side Molde.
A capacity crowd of 60,000 is expected for the Celtic Park clash while more than 50,000 are predicted to turn out for the annual fireworks spectacular.
Police feared their resources would be stretched to the limit if both East End events went ahead on the same night.
City leisure officials expressed concern that two major events would lead to traffic chaos. After talks with Culture and Sport Glasgow, police have pushed back the Glasgow Green celebrations.
In 2008 the city’s fireworks display was held a day later, on November 6, because of the Champions League clash between Celtic and Manchester United.
In recent times the popular fireworks display was moved once before, in 2003, when Celtic played Belgian side Anderlecht.
The display itself will start at about 7.30pm, with up to 3,000 fireworks lighting up the Glasgow skies as well as a funfair, food and entertainment. About 50,000 people are expected to attend, with gates opening at 5pm.
Lord Provost of Glasgow, Cllr Sadie Docherty, said: “We always aim to make the Glasgow Fireworks display the safest and most spectacular way to enjoy Guy Fawkes night.
“This year we faced the prospect of having a major European football match at the same time. For safety reasons we took the decision to move the fireworks to November 4. The display promises something special for everyone.”
