Indian violin virtuoso Jyotsna Srikanth brings her group Bangalore Dreams to Scotland for three concerts this month as part of a tour that also includes dates in London and Geneva. Srikanth, who trained in both her native Carnatic tradition and western classical music and who has contributed to some 250 Bollywood film soundtracks, plays Rothes Halls, Glenrothes on Wednesday, November 18; Blue Lamp, Aberdeen (19th); and Kilbarchan Performing Arts Centre (20th). She’s joined in Bangalore Dreams by keyboardist-pianist Shadrach Solomon and drummer Manjunath NS, whose skills include kit drumming, ethnic percussion and rhythmical vocalising that’s the equivalent of Carnatic beatboxing.

Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra’s annual GIOfest celebration of spontaneous music making goes ahead at CCA in Sauchiehall Street from November 26 -28. With a theme of New Directions and Old Friends this, the eighth, GIOFest welcomes back internationally renowned pianist and composer Keith Tippett, Edinburgh-born vocalist Maggie Nicols, pictured, percussionist Corey Mwamba, and American pianist Marilyn Crispell, who will play a duet with Tippett. New works include GIO’s first dance/music collaboration devised by artist Jer Reid and a specially commissioned visual art sculptural installation and film by artists Cath Keay and Graeme Wilson.

The Sunday afternoon jazz sessions in Clarks Bar in central Dundee are now operating on the first Sunday of the month and the next session will take place on Sunday, December 6. The sessions ran weekly for three and a half years, giving some seventy musicians an opportunity to play the music of Ellington, Parker, Monk, Coltrane and other jazz greats, and have attracted holidaying jazz enthusiasts from as far afield as Spain, New Zealand and the U.S.

Klezmer group Tantz plays two Scottish concerts later this month as apart of a UK tour to mark the release of its debut album, Voytek (The Bear). With a growing reputation for playing an uncompromising, hard hitting version of traditional klezmer music, Tantz made a big impression on the summer festival circuit in 2014, culminating in an invitation to play at the official after-show party at the Brits followed by a headlining slot at the massive Klezmer in the Park in Regent’s Park, London this September.
