POLICE escorted Ajax fans in Glasgow city centre ahead of tonight's Europa league match.

Dozens of Dutch supporters were held in a tight circle of Police Scotland officers outside pub Walkabout on Renfield Street.

City Centre traffic was brought to a standstill as parts of Renfield Street, West Nile Street, Renfrew Street and Killermont Street were suddenly closed.

Riot vans and mounted officers also attended the scene.

As Ajax fans, who had been in the city centre ahead of tonight's crunch match with Celtic, were brought under control, they shouted football chants.

Officers marched them onto Renfrew Street, at around 6pm, before taking them off along Killermont Street.

There were reports on social media of trouble breaking out at the Hoops Bar in Gallowgate, with a number of people injured.

One fan tweeted: “Just been told that Ajax casuals tried to wreck the hoops bar, be careful out there as they are looking to start a riot.”
