Now in its 17th year, Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections is designed to help participating artists sell their talents to invited delegates from around the world. Produced by Active Events and supported by Creative Scotland and the British Council, its festival-within-the-festival includes Herald Angel-winners RANT, pictured, who are in concert with Anda Union at the Mackintosh Church tomorrow and our cover star of last Saturday's Arts, Emma Pollock, who plays Oran Mor the same evening. The 2016 programme also includes a delegation of six French acts presented at Celtic Connections by BureauExport, the best known of whom is Blick Bassy, whose venue tomorrow is the Mitchell Theatre.

The showcase gives a platform to 60 Scottish musicians from yesterday evening to the close of the festival on Sunday and includes a host of networking opportunities for the 180 international delegates over the five days.

New artworks created by Neil McGuire, Nick Millar and Minty Donald will be unveiled on Saturday afternoon on the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow. Collectively entitled THEN/NOW, the works use materials that mirror the canal’s rich history and are installed at intervals along the canal side to reflect the industries the waterway once served, as well as celebrating its changing role today as a recreational space and regeneration area. The launch will be held at The Whisky Bond studio complex from 3pm.

Dr Donald, who is a senior lecturer in Contemporary Performance Practices at the University of Glasgow, said: “These are permanent pieces of art, but like the canal itself they will change with the seasonal conditions and the weather. People often think of sculpture as static, fixed and permanent, but these works are designed to change and age over time and weather."
