One of Scotland’s top husky racers has been targeted by thieves.

Outdoors adventurer Wattie McDonald had two dog-drawn sleds, worth about £1,000 stolen from his Alaskan-style visitor centre in Aberdeenshire at the weekend.

The thieves are believed to have struck at Husky Haven, at Netherley in Stonehaven, some time after 3pm on Friday.

Police described one of the sleds as having a pale wood timber basket seating area and white plastic handlebars and runners, while the other is silver in colour and has been fitted with three wheels.

Both are around 6ft in length.

PC Islay Anderson, who is investigating the theft, said: “These are specialised and identifiable pieces of sporting equipment, which were stolen from a domestic property in the Netherley Road area.

“We are keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the area and saw suspicious activity.”
