A PENSIONER was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in Glasgow.

The blaze, which took hold of the house on Nelson Street in Baillieston, was reported to the fire service around 1.39am today.

Crews arrived five minutes later to discover the fire had broken out on the first floor of the two-storey, four-in-a-block building.

An elderly woman was found at the scene suffering from smoke inhalation.

She was treated with oxygen but had to be taken to the Royal Infirmary by paramedics.

Fire fighters spent two hours tackling the flames, and a joint investigation with Police Scotland has now been launched.

Meanwhile, crews were called to another incident at a flat in Govan around 1.50am today.

Another elderly woman was treated at the scene on Kennedar Drive, after she was found to be suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
