A man has been arrested and charged with hare coursing following a wildlife crime investigation by police.

Officers in East Lothian, acting on information passed to them by the public, went to farmland near Longniddry on Tuesday.

A 20-year-old man was then charged under the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act, police said. He is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Police Scotland said they now want to trace two other men who were also seen in the area.

Sergeant John Forrester said: "It is completely unacceptable to use dogs for hare coursing and I can assure the public that we will do everything in our power to trace those who participate in this illegal act.

"We will always act on intelligence that has been passed to us and I would urge anyone who has information on hare coursing to please contact police as soon as possible on 101."
