THE father of a boy who took part in a botched bike stunt at the Glasgow Hydro which left two audience members injured has told how the crowd fell silent as the bike “fell back”.

The man, who has not been named, was in the audience with his son when the stunt team appealed for three people to take part in the high-thrills motorbike show on Thursday night.

The three were on the bike with a professional rider from the Nitro Circus team but it stalled near the top of the ramp and tipped backwards.

Two people had to be taken to hospital after the crash, including one who was said to have taken “a bike to the face”.

The father said: “They went forward towards the ramp, not too fast, and hit the bottom of the ramp and the speed died.

“They got to the top of the ramp and just stopped. The crowd went silent, they knew something was wrong. They lost their balance and fell.”

He said paramedics rushed in and treated the injured, stretchering some away.

He said his son, who is not believed to be seriously injured, immediately put his hand up when the team appealed for volunteers.

“He now wishes he hadn’t,” he added. He said he followed the team online and was aware accidents like that could happen.

He said: “They’ve put videos up before. This trick was tried eight times in America and all eight times it failed.”

One of the volunteers and the rider were able to walk away but two others were treated by medics at the scene before being taken to hospital suffering leg and facial injuries. All of those taking part were wearing helmets.

The two injured people were later said to have been ‘having a laugh’ and ‘in good spirits’.

Nitro Circus, which describes itself as an action sports entertainment company, is currently touring across Europe.
The event is being staged at London’s O2 tonight and Sunday before moving to Zurich and Paris.
