Eighty people had to be evacuated from a North Sea oil platform after it became damaged during a storm.

Crews on Brent Bravo, which is 115 miles north east of Lerwick, were airlifted off the platform on Sunday evening after damage was found on one of the its legs.

Shell confirmed that the evacuated personnel had been taken to Brent Charlie as a precaution.

A spokesman told STV News: “Personnel on the platform were called to muster following damage to one of the structure’s legs. As a precaution, all non-essential personnel were moved to other nearby Brent platforms.

“Relevant authorities have been notified and further information will be provided as it becomes available.”
