Police are appealing for witnesses following a break-in and theft at a jewellers in Edinburgh.

Entry was forced to a window of the George Street building housing Laing the Jeweller at around 1am on February 12.

A number of watches, collectively thought to be worth a five-figure sum, were stolen from the premises.

The suspect is described as a 5ft10 man with a slim-medium build. He was wearing an all-grey tracksuit with the hood pulled over his head.

He had his face obscured and was carrying a white or grey holdall. Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Detective Constable Michael Campbell of Gayfield CID said: "We're appealing for any members of the public who may have seen a man matching this description in the area around 1am to get in touch.

“We'd also ask anyone with information about the whereabouts of the stolen watches to come forward."
