A KNIFE thug attacked a shop worker during a robbery at a Paisley newsagents.

The 45-year-old man was left with cuts to his hand after he struggled with the armed robber in Jazzy's, in Netherhill Road, Gallowhill.

Police said the suspect made off with a four-figure sum of cash.

It happened at around 9.05pm on Thursday.

The suspect was last seen making off towards Netherhill Crescent.

He is described as white, around 30-years-old, 5ft 9in tall, of medium to muscular build and had an acne scarred complexion.

He was wearing a black and white zipper jacket with his hood up over a baseball cap, a scarf and Timberland style boots.

Detective Inspector Suzie Chow said: "This was a very traumatic experience for the shop assistant who did everything he could to foil this robbery.

"Inquiries so far have revealed that there were several girls hanging around near to the shop at this time.

"I urge them to contact police immediately as they may be able to provide valuable information that could assist our investigation.

"We also know that a man was also seen nearby at this time and it is vital that we speak to this man as soon as possible.

"He is described as white, around 26 to 27-years-old, 5ft 10in tall, slim build and was wearing a white jacket with black stripes and hood.

"He wore his hood up and also wore a scarf."
