A vicious gang behind an hour-long crime spree are being hunted by cops.

The trio threatened and robbed a taxi driver, mugged a young man and trashed a car during their rampage on Saturday night.

Police blasted the gang and warned: "It’s clear from their actions that these men think they are above the law.

"But I can assure you that is not the case."

During the crime spree, the thugs racially abused a 35-year-old taxi driver and stole his takings, after they were picked up in Govanhill.

At around 8.20pm, the cabbie pulled over on the hard shoulder of the M74, near Junction 2, and got out.

The three men stole a quantity of cash and a radio before running off.

And just 20 minutes later, a 24-year-old man was mugged as he entered a close in Baronald Street, Rutherglen.

He was threatened and robbed of a sum of money by two men, while a third male was seen waiting nearby.

Police are also investigating after a car, which was parked at Tesco in Dalmarnock Road, was vandalised shortly before 9pm.

Cops said that "given the proximity and the circumstances of the crimes", officers believe the same men are responsible for the incidents.

Detective Constable Neil Dooher said: "It’s clear from their actions that these men think they are above the law.

"But I can assure you that is not the case.

"A team of detectives is in the process of reviewing CCTV images from around these locations, gathering additional information and finding new lines of inquiry.

"The behaviour of these men is unacceptable and I am appealing to local residents within these areas to speak to us and pass on any information they may have.

"Did you see these men, do you know them, any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove important in our investigation, please do get in touch."

The suspects are described as white, between 17 and 25-years-old, with short hair. They all spoke with "local accents".

All three are described as being of medium build, around 5ft 10in tall and wearing dark coloured clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
