SCOTLAND'S national ballet company has created a new film, shot in a well known public baths in Glasgow, for a forthcoming film festival in the city.

The film, Maze, was shot in Govanhill Baths in the south side of the city, and is the latest production in the Scottish Ballet Creative scheme, which looks to create productions that involve dance, photography and film.

Maze will be premiered at the CCA in the city on March 19 as part of the Glasgow Short Film Festival.

The screening will be accompanied by other films that mix dance and movement from around the world.

Maze, choreographed by Sophie Laplane, was written for four dancers but the film features two, Madeline Squire and Javier Andreu.

It was directed by Scottish Ballet designer and film maker Eve McConnachie, who also directed the last Scottish Ballet film, the music video to singer Kathryn Joseph's song The Bird.

Glasgow Short Film Festival runs from March 16 to 20.

The first film in the Scottish Ballet Creative series was Healah Dancing in 2013.

The film took two days to record in several locations within the baths.

Ms McConnachie, who studied at Duncan of Jordanstone art college in Dundee, said that films and videos have the potential to reach a wider audience than the traditional ballet audience.

"Our films get such a great reaction and can reach a wider audience than we would otherwise get," she said.

"We are working on a couple of others and they will go online."

Christopher Hampson, chief executive and artistic director of Scottish Ballet, has said of the scheme: "Projects like these are vital to help us bring dance to a wider audience and will allow a new generation to experience the beauty of ballet up close.”
