Christopher Brookmyre is offering crime fans the chance to be immortalised in the pages of his next book.

The Glasgow author, who wrote Black Widow and Boiling a Frog, will give fans the chance to name a character in his next Jack Parlabane novel during CLIC Sargent's Get in Character charity ebay auction, with the prize going to the highest bidder.

The money raised during the auction will go to CLIC Sargent, a charity that supports children and young people with cancer and their families.

Other authors taking part in the Get in Character auction include Emma Donoghue, Paula Hawkins and Simon Kernick.

Mr Brookmyre said: "Everybody wins in this event. The auction winner gets their name in a book, and frequently that name has a better resonance with the character than the one I would have come up with."

Other items that will be auctioned during the event include book bundles, critiques from writers and, author meet and greet events.

Clare Cox, eBay Coordinator at CLIC Sargent, said: "We have a fantastic array of authors taking part in this year’s auction, ranging from romance, to children’s books, to hard-boiled thrillers.

"We are hugely grateful for the support of these authors, who are giving their fans a fantastic opportunity to become part of one of their stories while also raising vital funds to help CLIC Sargent provide practical, emotional, financial and clinical support to children and young people with cancer, and their families."
