Nicola Sturgeon has joined celebrities and friends and family of Paige Doherty in paying tribute to the teenager with a pouting selfie.

Friends of the 15-year-old who was found dead in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, last week created a Twitter hashtag calling on people to post pictures as Paige "loved to pout was ace at it".

The First Minister added a picture using #PoutforPaige with the message: "Sending all of my thoughts and condolences to Paige's family and friends."

As well as her family and friends, hundreds of people have joined the trend including actress Kym Marsh, singer Nicholas McDonald and dozens of reality TV stars.

Paige was reported missing on Saturday March 19 and her body was found two days later in bushes at the side of Great Western Road in Clydebank.

A 31-year-old man appeared in court on Saturday charged with her murder and was remanded in custody.

Tributes were also paid to the teenager at a memorial event in a Clydebank park on Saturday.

Some of Paige's friends thanked the crowd who had turned out in the wind and rain to take part in the event.

One girl said: ''Paige was so beautiful, everything about her you just wouldn't change. For that to get taken away from us was absolutely heart-breaking.''

Another added: ''I just can't believe she has gone, it hasn't sunk in. There's only one star in the sky tonight and it's obviously Paige looking down on us.''
