A MOUNTAIN biker has been flown to hospital by air ambulance after suffering a fall in the Scottish Borders.

The rider had been cycling a route in the Newcastleton 7Stanes trail, close to the Scotland-England border, when they fell from their bike at around 1pm on Monday.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team were called out to the incident along with police and paramedics.

The cyclist, who was unable to move due to injury, was transferred to hospital by Helimed Air Ambulance and specialist Trauma Team.

Dave Wright, Tweed Valley deputy team leader, said: "This incident occurred in a remote part of the Scottish Borders and despite the location, the first team members were on scene within 30 minutes.

"All involved were thankful for the arrival of the Helimed Air Ambulance as the evacuation by air meant a long transfer by road ambulance was avoided.

"I’d like to thank all our volunteer team members for making themselves available, especially those who travelled a considerable distance to reach the incident."
