A 70-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a woman found dead in her Inverness home.

The body of Elizabeth Mackay, or Muir, was discovered at her Kintail Court property in the city's Hilton area on March 31.

Police Scotland said a 70-year-old man has been arrested and will appear on a murder charge at Inverness Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Ms Mackay, 60, was described by family and friends as a "gentle person" who kept herself to herself.

Relatives have been informed of the arrest and are being supported by family liaison officers.

The death shook the local community a decade after it was the centre of another murder investigation.

The body of hairdresser Ilene O'Connor was found buried in a garden at Kintail Court in 2006.

Brian Grant was later jailed for life for the killing of the 39-year-old Inverness woman.
