Air France-KLM Group’s low cost airline Transavia has launched its new Edinburgh-Paris Orly service.

The year-round Edinburgh-Paris route will operate four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Paris Orly Airport, eight miles South of Paris, is the busiest in France for domestic traffic and the second busiest French airport overall in terms of passenger boarding.

The sales opening date for next winter season is planned for this Tuesday.

One-way fares are pitched at from £31 including taxes and VAT. The airline will be using B737-800 aircraft offering 189 seats.

Transavia said that there had been "growing demand for connectivity from Scotland" and that his had "risen to the challenge" with the launch of the new services.

Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “This new direct route between Edinburgh and Paris Orly provides yet more evidence of Edinburgh being a thriving business and tourist destination.

“We welcome Transavia to Edinburgh Airport and are delighted that they are launching this service offering our passengers yet more choice and increased connectivity.”

Hervé Kozar, chief commercial officer of Transavia described the new route as a “major achievement” for the airline.
