Murder cops are probing the tragic death of a mum-of-two who was attacked at her home.

The woman, locally named as Xinxin Liu, 39, was discovered at a property in the up-market suburb of Newton Mearns, Glasgow on Tuesday night.

It is understood she had two young boys, aged six and 10, who attended the nearby Mearns primary school.

She also lived in the house with her husband.

Her home on Beech Avenue was sealed off today by police as investigations continue and forensic officers scoured the scene for evidence.

A blue/grey car remained parked in the driveway of the White-painted two-storey home as forensics officers searched inside.

At one point a woman, understood to be a relative, appeared outside the house while police worked inside.

She started crying before driving away from the scene.

Detectives say they are following a definite line of inquiry.

Neighbours have spoken of their shock at the tragic discovery and said they had no idea anything had happened until they got up this morning.

One said: "The cordon was there this morning when I took the kids to school.

"Their son is in my daughter's class at school.

"They're very normal. I saw them on a daily basis going to school doing things families do. She was very nice and friendly."

Other neighbours paid tribute to Xinxin, describing her as "happy" and "smiley" but said they knew very little about the couple.

Another neighbour said: "She was a very nice person. We're in total shock.

"She was always a happy, smiley lass. They are a perfectly respectable wee family.

"This is like stuff you read about in other parts of Glasgow. A police helicopter around here is a big deal.

"A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A 39-year-old woman has died following an incident at a house in Beech Avenue, Newton Mearns on Tuesday.
Police enquiries are continuing and officers are following a definite line of inquiry."
