Police are seeking help to identify a woman whose body was found in the far north of Scotland.

Officers recovered the body from the shore at John O'Groats, Caithness, after a member of the public alerted them to the scene at around 3pm on Sunday.

The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage.

The woman's identity is not yet known but she is described as being white, aged in her late 40s to early 50s, with a medium build and blonde, shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a dark skirt and burgundy cardigan.

Anyone who saw a woman with this description in the area over the weekend, or who has any information that could help police establish her identity, is being urged to contact officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.
