Stewart Hosie biography, from the start of his career with the SNP.

- Working in IT for 20 years, Hosie began his political career as the SNP Youth Convener from 1986 to 89. He was then National Secretary from 1999 to 2003 and Organisation Convener from 2003 to 05.

- He first met Nicola Sturgeon during the 1988 Govan by election. Sturgeon was also close friends with Shona Robison after attending Glasgow University together.

- Hosie met Robison at an SNP conference in 1990 and they later married in 1997. Living together in Dundee, their daughter Morag Louise was born in 2003.

- After contesting the Kirkcaldy seat in the 1992 and 1997 general elections and Dundee East in 2001, Hosie became an Member of Parliament when he gained Dundee East from Labour in 2005.

- With Robison Member of the Scottish Parliament for Dundee City East from 2003-2011, the couple became the first husband and wife team to represent the same constituency at Holyrood and Westminster.

- While Robison won plaudits for her role as minister during the Commonweath Games, Hosie has since had a high profile career with the SNP, being appointed Treasury Spokesperson from 2005 to present and Women and Home Affairs Spokesperson from 2005-07.

- He was appointed SNP Deputy Westminster Leader and Chief Whip in 2010, and at the SNP Conference in November 2014, he was elected Depute Leader of the SNP.

- He has also suffered ill health in recent years, including a "mini-stroke" in 2012.

- Often lauded as a SNP "power couple", Robison and Hosie's close-knit relationship with others in the SNP was often lauded as a positive force behind the party's recent gains.

- After announcing their separation earlier in the week, Hosie now says he will step down as Deputy Leader, saying he will not seek re-election at the SNP autumn conference.
